TheTraderWiki

Privacy policy

TheTraderWiki’s privacy policy is short, as the site collects almost nothing. You’ll find no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. The only form is the search box. Still, two things involve personal data, since they cannot be avoided when running a website. One is the request logs kept by the company that delivers the site. The other is any e-mail you choose to send us.

What personal data is involved, and why

Personal data at TheTraderWiki comes from two places only. Each place has its own purpose, legal basis and retention.

The personal data the site involves.
WhatDataWhyLegal basisHow long
Request logsIP address, the page asked for (including any search term, which becomes part of the page address when you search without scripts), the time, the browser identification stringDelivering the site and keeping it secureLegitimate interest in running the site safely (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f))For the limited period the hosting provider keeps its logs. The site itself does not copy or keep them
E-mails you sendYour e-mail address, your name if you give it, and your messageReplying to you and acting on a correctionLegitimate interest in answering readers (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f))Until the matter is dealt with, then deleted

What the site does not collect

TheTraderWiki collects nothing else. The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, shows no advertising, embeds nothing from social networks and builds no profile of anyone. If you select a country on the broker comparison, that selection is saved in your own browser only, contains nothing that identifies you and is never sent to the site. The cookie policy describes it. When scripts are on, a search runs in your browser and the search term is not sent to the site. When scripts are off, the search term is sent as part of the page address, so it appears in the request logs described above.

Who delivers the site

A hosting and content-delivery provider delivers the site. It handles the site’s request logs on the site’s behalf, acting as a processor under a data processing agreement. A processor is the data-protection term for a company that handles personal data for someone else. The provider keeps these logs for a limited period, storing them in data centres in the United States and Europe. The agreement includes standard contractual clauses covering data processed outside the United Kingdom and the European Union. The provider has no relationship of its own with the people who read the site.

Your rights, and who to contact

Your rights over personal data come from the GDPR and its UK version. These rights apply to the request logs and to any e-mail you have sent.

  • To ask for a copy of the data held about you and to have it corrected or deleted.
  • To object to it being used, or to ask for its use to be limited.
  • To complain to a data-protection authority: in the United Kingdom the Information Commissioner’s Office, or the authority in your own country.

Send your requests to TheTraderWiki through the contact page or at privacy@thetraderwiki.com. The site keeps no account or record tied to you, so it may need your help to find what you are asking about, such as the date you wrote. The terms of use cover everything else about using the site.
