Terms of use

TheTraderWiki’s terms of use lay out how the site is offered to you. They give you a licence to read and quote the site, and they state that nothing on it is advice. The terms also explain the limits of the site’s accuracy and availability, disclaim responsibility for websites run by others and limit the publisher’s liability. By using the site, you accept these terms.

The terms in brief

The terms in brief have five points, each laid out in full on this page.

  • The terms let you read the site, link to it and quote from it, as long as you include attribution. The terms forbid reproducing whole pages and stripping out the risk warnings.
  • Nothing on the site is advice.
  • The publisher aims for accuracy but offers no warranty that the site is accurate. Availability is not guaranteed.
  • Linked sites are not the publisher’s responsibility.
  • Liability is excluded to the extent the law allows.

Licence to read and quote

The licence in these terms is granted to everyone and covers reading, linking and quoting. You do not need to register.

Reading and linking

You have permission to read and link without restriction. You may read the site, link to any page or section and save copies for your personal reference. Every page is also published in Markdown and JSON at the same address, and you may read and process those formats on the same terms as the HTML.

Quotation with attribution

You are permitted to quote passages from the site for any purpose, including commercial publication, journalism, teaching and research. Three conditions apply. You must attribute the quotation to TheTraderWiki and include a link to the page or section you quote. You must not alter the quotation in a way that changes its meaning, and you must not present it as advice. Without written consent, which you can request at the contact addresses, you are not permitted to reproduce whole pages or to reproduce material with the risk warnings removed.

Use by automated systems

Automated systems, which include search engines and answer engines, have permission to use the site’s content on the same terms. Those systems may index, summarise and quote passages, with attribution to TheTraderWiki and a link to the source page. The site publishes its pages in machine-readable formats for that purpose.

No advice

Nothing on TheTraderWiki is investment advice, financial advice, tax advice or legal advice. Nothing on the site is a recommendation, an offer or an invitation to buy, sell or hold any instrument, or to open an account with any provider. The site explains how contracts for difference work, what they cost and how they are regulated, as general information. Your decision to trade depends on personal circumstances the site cannot know, and the risk disclosure states the risks in full. If you are unsure, you should consult a qualified, independent adviser.

Accuracy and availability

The publisher pursues accuracy by citing primary sources for every rule and statistic, and corrects a page when an error is reported or a source changes. Each page lists the sources it cites, and the updated date in the byline records when a page was last changed (about). But rules change, sources move and errors occur. The publisher does not warrant that any page is complete, current or free of error at the moment you read it. Availability is not guaranteed. The site may be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside the publisher’s control, and its content may be changed or withdrawn at any time.

Information about a provider, such as its licence, leverage, fees and payment methods, comes from that provider’s published terms and from regulators’ registers on the date it was checked. Check it with the provider and on the regulator’s register before you open an account.

Limitation of liability

The publisher’s liability for any loss arising from the use of the site is excluded to the fullest extent permitted by the applicable law. The exclusion extends to trading losses, loss of profit, loss of data and any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability for fraud. The site is free and is provided as it is.

The exclusion also covers losses from relying on information about a provider without checking it with that provider.

Changes to these terms

Changes to these terms take effect when they are published at this address. The updated date in the byline records when the current version was published. You accept the changed terms if you keep using the site after a change. If you do not accept them, you should stop using the site.
