Eightcap review

Eightcap is a regulated forex and CFD broker that centres on platforms many traders already use: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and TradingView. On TradingView you can trade straight from the chart. Eightcap is regulated in the UK, the EU and Australia. Its global company is regulated in the Seychelles. That company offers one of the larger crypto CFD ranges among the brokers this site covers. The trade-off is a smaller range overall and spreads published only as minimums. You can pick your country below to see which Eightcap company you’d be with.

Eightcap at a glance

Eightcap’s strengths lie in the platforms it supports, its crypto range and where it’s regulated, but there are a few things to consider.

  • Platforms you may already useMetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and TradingView, with trading straight from a TradingView chart (trading platforms).
  • A large crypto rangeIts global company lists 132 crypto CFDs, along with forex, indices, commodities and 591 share CFDs (crypto CFDs).
  • Regulated in the UK, EU, Australia and beyondCompanies authorised by the FCA, CySEC and ASIC, each giving retail clients negative balance protection. Its global company is licensed in the Seychelles, and a second one in the Bahamas.
  • What to weigh upNo platform of its own, 819 instruments in all, and spreads published only as minimums (costs and fees).

Leverage at Eightcap’s global company

Leverage at Eightcap’s global company is high on the most traded markets. These figures come from the global company. Eightcap’s UK, EU and Australian companies cap retail clients at 30:1 (maximum leverage). More leverage lets you open bigger positions, and that means bigger gains and bigger losses.

  • Up to 500:1 on goldAt Eightcap’s global company you can use up to 500:1 on gold against the US dollar and up to 100:1 on silver (XAU/USD, XAG/USD).
  • Up to 500:1 on major forex pairsThe global company applies the same 500:1 to EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY).
  • Up to 500:1 on oilWTI crude and Brent crude both go up to 500:1 at the global company (WTI, Brent).
  • Up to 20:1 on cryptoAt the global company, Bitcoin goes up to 20:1, as do Ether and the other major coins (BTC/USD, ETH/USD).

Is Eightcap regulated where you live?

Eightcap is regulated in every country it serves here. The Eightcap company that takes you on usually depends on where you live, and your leverage and protections come from the company that opens your account and its regulator. In Germany, Eightcap usually places you with Eightcap EU Ltd, and CySEC in Cyprus regulates that company. In Brazil, you usually get the global company, Eightcap International Ltd, licensed by the Seychelles Financial Services Authority. That global company gives more leverage, up to 500:1 on EUR/USD, and fewer protections than the UK, EU and Australian companies.

Even if the global company takes you on, the group also holds licences from ASIC, the FCA and CySEC. Those regulators check who owns and runs the group and hold the group’s companies in their countries to their rules on capital and client money, though those rules protect only those companies’ clients. The last column gives what the global company’s own terms say about your country.

Costs it publishes

Eightcap publishes its spreads as "as low as 1.0 pips" on one account and "from 0.0 pips" plus a commission on the other. It names no benchmark for its overnight charge and no mark-up on top. The global company does state an inactivity fee: 10 units of the account currency each month after 12 months without a trade. Its UK company says it charges none.

A cost comparison on Eightcap’s own site shows figures labelled as averages. They’re credited to a third party on a single date, and none of them can be cited or checked (compare providers).

Funding by card and bank transfer is open in every country Eightcap serves. Crypto is the exception, covered in the next table. The comparison page sets these facts beside every other broker’s. Because the broker can change these terms and those in the by-country table below at its own discretion, always double-check them on the broker’s own website before you deposit.

Funding, by country

Funding differs by country in two ways. Three countries have a local payment rail Eightcap accepts: BPAY in Australia, Pix in Brazil and PromptPay in Thailand (payment rails). Crypto deposits are open only where the Seychelles company serves, so you can’t pay in crypto from the UK, Australia or the six EU countries.

Every company in the group

The group’s legal-documents page names four global companies, in the Bahamas, the Seychelles, Mauritius and Saint Vincent. Eightcap doesn’t say which of them you’d be routed to, so you can’t tell in advance whose terms would govern your account. Its own sign-up defaults to the Seychelles company for international applicants. That company’s client agreement names only United States citizens and tax residents as ineligible and doesn’t mention any of the countries covered here. The Bahamas company is on the Securities Commission of The Bahamas’ list of licensed firms, trading contracts for difference.

Common questions about Eightcap

The Eightcap company that opens your account changes how questions about Eightcap are answered, so every answer names the company it applies to.

Is Eightcap regulated?

Eightcap is regulated through a separate company in each region. In the United Kingdom, Eightcap Group Ltd holds FCA firm reference number 921296. In Cyprus, Eightcap EU Ltd holds CySEC licence 246/14. Eightcap Pty Ltd is under ASIC in Australia. In the Seychelles, Eightcap International Ltd is licensed and appears on the Seychelles Financial Services Authority’s list. The Securities Commission of The Bahamas lists Eightcap Global Limited among licensed firms.

Which Eightcap company would I be with?

Which Eightcap company you’re with usually depends on where you live, and its regulator sets your leverage and protections. UK residents usually get Eightcap Group Ltd. Australians usually get Eightcap Pty Ltd. Residents of Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Poland and Portugal usually get Eightcap EU Ltd in Cyprus. The Latin American and South-east Asian countries listed here get Eightcap International Ltd in the Seychelles by default.

What leverage does Eightcap offer?

At its UK, Cyprus and Australian companies, Eightcap limits leverage for retail clients to 30:1. The UK company also offers 200:1 to professional clients. Eightcap’s global contract pages show up to 500:1 on forex, 20:1 on crypto and 5:1 on shares, under the label “Eightcap Global Limited (SYC regulated)”. That label joins the name of the Bahamas company to the Seychelles code, and no Eightcap page says which company the figures belong to. The figures are recorded here for Eightcap International Ltd in the Seychelles, the company its sign-up uses by default (EURUSD contract page).

What is Eightcap’s minimum deposit?

Eightcap’s minimum deposit of 100 appears on its global pages without a currency. The UK company asks for a minimum deposit of 100 in pounds. The group says it charges no deposit or withdrawal fee of its own (account types).

Does Eightcap offer MT4, MT5 or TradingView?

Eightcap’s global and Australian companies provide MT4, MT5 and TradingView. Eightcap EU Ltd, the EU company, provides MT5 and TradingView, but not MT4 (EU platforms). The UK company’s site names TradingView only.

Does Eightcap have negative balance protection?

Eightcap provides negative balance protection as a retail right at its UK, Cyprus, Australian and Seychelles companies. Its Bahamas company leaves negative balance protection to its own sole discretion.

Risk warning

A well-regulated counterparty doesn’t make the product safe

A well-regulated counterparty, the firm on the other side of your trade, protects you against only one thing: that firm going under while it has your money. It does nothing about the price moving against you, and that’s far more likely. Read the risk disclosure before opening any account.
